Khalifa University has concluded the 11th annual Mobile Application Contest (MAC 2016) with an awards ceremony to recognize the winners of the innovative competition, which saw submissions from university teams from around the UAE.

Teams were ranked as follows:

  • First place: Abu Dhabi University’s team for their Smart Bus System application;
  • Second place: Khalifa University’s team for their AIR Chemistry Lab application;
  • Third place: Al Hosn University’s team for their submission named Smart Application for Every Car (SAEC);
  • Fourth place: UAE University’s team for their app on Modeling and Virtualization of Emirati Heritage.

MAC 2016 attracted 15 submissions from five local institutions. This was the first year that apps were also designed for smart watches in addition to smart phones. App innovations ranged from Doua’a reminders for smart watches, Iqamaty app’s for renewing visas, tools to monitor your cars fuel use and safe driving, and ones geared at helping detect learning disorders in children and other innovative apps.

This year’s contest was sponsored by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Samsung Gulf Electronics, and was organised by Khalifa University.
